Oldest Lady Bear Record Falls as Women's Swimming Sweeps New Rochelle and Mount Saint Vincent

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.—Powered by a record-setting effort in the 200-yard freestyle relay and several personal bests, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's swimming team moved back over .500 with a double dual sweep of The College of New Rochelle and the College of Mount Saint Vincent at the CNR Wellness Center on Tuesday night.

In the final event of the night, 200-yard freestyle relay of Erin Collins (Breezy Point, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall), Victoria Benalcazar (Astoria, N.Y./St. John's Prep), Jillian O'Hara (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) and Brianna Minogue (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) clocked in at 2:01.62 breaking the oldest standing record in the Lady Bears record book. Minogue swam a blistering 27.79 final leg to help break a mark that stood for over five years set in the HVWAC Championships in December 2009 by current assistant coach Kristen McMaster, Nicolle Velez, Alison Nunziata and Olivia O'Hara, Jillian's sister.

In her other two events, Minogue contributed second-place points in the 200-yard freestyle (2:31.42) and 100-yard freestyle (1:17.64).

Tina Wong (Brooklyn, N.Y./HS of Telecommunications Art and Technology) set two personal bests in the meet with a first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (1:17.65) and a second-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley (2:48.61).

In her first meet of the season due to injury, Morgan Summers (Bellerose, N.Y./St. Mary's) captured first place and also set a new Lady Bear record by five seconds in the 200-yard freestyle (2:25.71), her first time swimming in the event in her career.

Julia Dineen (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Saviour) collected the third of the individual triumphs for the Lady Bears in the 100-yard backstroke (1:20.04).

Leticia Salazar (Ridgewood, N.Y/Grover Cleveland) set a new personal best by over a minute in the 1000-yard freestyle (19:48.37) also chipping in second-place points. Lauren GaNun (Breezy Point, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall) also set a new personal best in the 100-yard backstroke (2:06.98). Swimming in the 500-yard freestyle for the first time in her career, Jennifer Moncino (Ridgewood, N.Y.Archbishop Molloy) posted a sub 10-minute time (9:52.96) and took third place.

The Lady Bears (3-2) return to the pool on Monday, January 26 to face borough rivals Brooklyn College on the road starting at 6 p.m.
