RIVERDALE, N.Y. — Senior forward Destiny Hurt (Elmont, N.Y./Sewanhaka) eclipsed the 1,000-point milestone courtesy of a fourth-quarter jumper from inside the arc. She ultimately scored 15 points as the St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) women's basketball team fell to the University of Mount Saint Vincent, 93-55, on Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened
Hurt contributed the Bears' initial six points in the game, but the Dolphins responded with an unanswered 14-point streak, heading into the second quarter with a 16-8 advantage. The Bears found themselves trailing by two possessions early in the second quarter but their deficit grew to 46-20 by halftime. Hurt led the team with nine points in the first 20 minutes.
During the third quarter, Mercedes Perez (San Antonio, Texas/William Howard Taft) shot 60 percent from the field as she deposited 10 points. Despite being behind 62-39, the Bears managed to outscore the Dolphins 19-16 in the quarter.
Hurt achieved 1,000 points at the 6:03 mark of the fourth quarter, assisted by a short feed from Perez. Unfortunately, the Bears couldn't overcome the substantial deficit in the final quarter, resulting in a 93-55 loss.
