SCRANTON, PA. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. – Brooklyn men's basketball team opened the Electric City Classic with a 65-79 deficit to hosts Marywood University on Friday evening.
How it Happened
Both teams hit three-pointers to start the game, establishing the rhythm for much of the first half. Neither the Bears nor the Pacers managed a lead larger than one possession until the final 4:32, when the hosts pulled ahead 28-23. St. Joseph's narrowed the gap to two with a three from Alex Macheras (Sandy Spring, Md.) at 3:06. However, Marywood went into halftime with a 39-30 advantage. Newcomers Colin Mills (White Plains, N.Y.) and Maven Cummings (Brooklyn, N.Y.) accounted for 14 of the team's 30 points in the first half.
The Bears closed the gap to two at the 12:08 mark of the second half, courtesy of a Mills three-pointer, before Cummings capitalized on a Pacer turnover to tie the game at 49. However, Marywood responded with an 11-0 run, regaining the lead for good. Unable to come within single digits, the Bears dropped their first game at the Electric City Classic, 79-65.

Mills, Cummings, and Noah Gray (Panama City, Fla.) combined for 42 of the team's 65 points.

Mills shot an efficient 3-for-3 from beyond the arc, finishing with 15 points to go with five rebounds, two assists, and as many steals.

Gray shot 7-of-10 to total 14 points and came within a pair of rebounds from a double-double. He also registered a pair of blocks.

Cummings, in his collegiate debut, totaled 13 points and three assists.

Justin Nazon (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished with eight points and seven rebounds.
