BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. – Brooklyn women's basketball team opened a three-game homestand with a 55-77 defeat to Manhattanville University on Tuesday evening at The Hill Center.
How it Happened
The Bears effectively limited the Valiants' scoring production in the first quarter, Leading by as many as seven, 16-9. Powered by Kristen Donovan (Maspeth, N.Y.) and Mercedes Perez (San Antonio, Texas), the navy-and-gray held a 16-11 advantage after the first 10 minutes.
The Valiants scored the first nine points of the second stanza, taking a 20-16 lead. St. Joseph's trimmed the deficit to five, 32-27, with 63 seconds left, but Manhattanville extended their lead to 37-27 by halftime.
The Valiants' largest lead of the game came in the third quarter, at 58-32. The Bears cut the margin to 17 points in the fourth, 70-53, but Manhattanville held on to secure a 77-55 victory, extending their winning streak to four games to start the season.

Perez logged a double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds while dishing out seven assists, all game-highs.

Donovan totaled 17 points, a season-best, to go with three boards and a pair of assists.
