FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. – Brooklyn cross country teams wrapped up the 2024 season at the Skyline Conference Championships on Sunday. The women's team placed eighth in the 6k race, while the men's team finished 12th in the 8k event.
Jennifer Sarji (Brooklyn, N.Y.) narrowly missed All-Conference honors, achieving a personal-best time of 28:21.7 for 16th place overall. Danielle Bourne (Brooklyn, N.Y.) followed closely in 29th place with a time of 30:24.6, while Joell McKeon (Narrowsburg, N.Y.) finished 39th with a time of 32:30.3. Kristen Donovan (Maspeth, N.Y.) clocked in at 33:06.5, which placed her in the top 50.
Lauren Van Der Kamp (Sacramento, Calif.), Kathleen Idrovo (New York, N.Y.), and Elizabeth Yu (Vista, Calif.) completed the team's efforts, all finishing under 37 minutes and within the top 65.
On the men's side, Alex Helfant (Quito, Ecuador) led the Bears with a personal-best time of 33:48.1, finishing in 53rd place. Freshman Gabriel Lopez (Forest Hills, N.Y.) crossed the finish line at 35:05.2, while senior Tariq Belma (Brooklyn, N.Y.) followed 15 seconds later. Stephan Direny (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Nazareth Warren (Brooklyn, N.Y.), and Joshua Gordon (Brooklyn, N.Y.) rounded out the team, finishing in 78th to 80th place, all within 45 minutes of each other.
Van Der Kamp and Gordon were selected to represent the Bears on the Skyline Conference All-Sportsmanship Teams, earning the honor for the second consecutive season. Both have received All-Sportsmanship recognition in multiple sports, with Van Der Kamp being recognized in softball in 2024 and Gordon in men's basketball for 2022-23.
