BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Senior guard Evan Sirakis (Hollis Hills, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) crossed the 1,000-point threshold on Saturday afternoon at The Hill Center. He finished the game with 17 points however, the St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) men's basketball team suffered a 78-90 defeat against Purchase College.
How it Happened
Early in the game, the lead exchanged hands between the two teams with the Bears managing to keep the Panthers' advantage to no more than two possessions for a significant portion of the first ten minutes. A 12-0 run by the visitors propelled them to a 27-16 lead, which then expanded to 50-32 by halftime. Adam Jasaraj (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan Wagner) and Chris Tracy (Glendale, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) emerged as the leading scorers in the first half, each contributing a pair of triples, while Justin Nazon (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan Wagner) added five points.
Sirakis and Jonathan Reno poured in 13 and 15 points, respectively in the second half. The duo linked up on the former's milestone bucket as Sirakis drained a triple on the wing in front of the SJBK bench as the shot clock expired with 8:50 in the stanza. The Bears closed the deficit to 12 at the end of the contest, 90-78.
