Baseball Shut Out by SUNY Maritime

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) baseball team dropped both games of their Skyline Conference doubleheader against SUNY Maritime College on Saturday afternoon, 0-5 and 0-7.

How it Happened (Game 1)

The Privateers did their damage in the second inning. Holding a 1-0 lead, a grand slam off the bat of Anthony Madigan gave the hosts their 5-0 advantage.

Maritime weathered an SJBK bases-loaded jam in the top of the seventh as they held on to the 5-0 margin.

How it Happened (Game 2)

A pitchers duel ensued between the Bears' Dylan Cantwell (Island Park, N.Y./Long Beach) and Maritime starter Brandon Stanley, keeping their opposition off the board while conceding a combined 12 hits.

The Privateers broke the deadlock in the seventh as Madigan and Freddy Forgione each recorded two-RBI singles as part of a seven-run stanza en route to the game-two win.

For the Bears (Game 1)

  • Six Bears totaled base hits.

  • Brian Sanchez (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H Calhoun), who went 1-for-3 at the plate, was dealt the defeat on the bump (0-1).

  • Jake McDonald (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) allowed just one walk over 4.1 relief innings.

For the Bears (Game 2)

  • Matt Arcati (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) went 3-for-4 with a stolen base.

  • Sean Schneeberg (Sacramento, Calif./Del Oro) batted 2-for-4.
