PURCHASE, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) softball team were on the receiving end of 0-16 and 0-15 losses to Manhattanville University on Sunday afternoon.
How it Happened (Game 1)
The Valiants' offense asserted themselves with a three-run first inning before piling on seven runs in the second. Amaya Esperanza, who drove in a game-high six RBI, sent home a pair of runners in the third before confirming the 16-0 win after five.
Bella Gomez (Whittier, Calif./Sonora) provided the offense for the Bears as she batted 2-for-3 with a double. Makena Burr (Foster City, Calif./San Mateo) was dealt the defeat in the circle.
How it Happened (Game 2)
Manhattanville's offensive prowess carried over into game two with five runs in the first. Despite Burr holding the Valiants scoreless in the second, the hosts responded strongly by adding 10 more runs over the following two innings.
Arianna Heinsch (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall Academy) registered a single while Vivian Garcia (Eastvale, Calif./Eleanor Roosevelt) and Sofia Logreco (San Diego, Calif./Mission Hills) also saw the base paths.
