Farmingdale State Bats Silence Baseball

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) baseball team fell to Farmingdale State College in a pair of seven-inning contests on Sunday, 2-24 and 1-12.

How it Happened (Game 1)

The Rams errupted with a seven-run first innng followed by a nine-run outburst in the second to possess a 16-0 advantage. The Bears pulled a pair of runs back; Joe Provvisiero (Ozone Park, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) crossed the plate in the third while Brian Sanchez (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H Calhoun) singled in the fifth to send Nick Tapio (Sacramento, Calif./Christian Brothers) home.

Farmingdale State plated eight more runs over the final two frames, headlined by a two-run homer off the bat of Joseph Pasqua, to confirm the 24-2 result.

Provvisiero and Sanchez led a sextet of Bears to register base-hits. The former struck out a pair of bats over four innings of relief while the latter started the contest on the mound, suffering the pitching defeat.

How it Happened (Game 2)

Trailing 2-0 in the second, Provvisiero scored to trim the deficit in half. The visitors restored their two-run edge with Pasqua's second homer of the game in the fourth, 3-1.

A grand slam saw the Rams add further separation, leading 7-1 before a combined five runs scored in the sixth and seventh resulting in their 12-1 rune-rule victory.

Alex Goldberg (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) drove in the lone SJBK run of the game, batting 1-for-3. Kris Vinski (Bridgehampton, N.Y./Bridgehampton) was dealt the loss on the bump.

The Bears travel to the Bronx to face the University of Mount Saint Vincent. First pitch on Saturday, April 27 is slated for 12 pm.
