FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — The No. 3 St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) softball team lost their first game of the Skyline Conference Double Elimination tournament, falling to No. 2 Manhattanville University, 0-8, on Thursday evening.
How it Happened
The Bears saw a trio of base runners in the top of the first but could not get on the board. In Manhattanville's half of the first, Rachel Coleman launched a three-run home run over the left field fence, taking a 3-0 advantage. They doubled their lead thanks to three runs in the second.
Makena Burr (Foster City, Calif./San Mateo) kept the Valiants at bay, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings. However, the No. 2 seed plated two runs in the bottom of the fifth; confirming their 8-0 run-rule victory.
Bella Gomez (Whittier, Calif./Sonora) and Sofia Logreco (San Diego, Calif./Mission Hills) recorded hits while the former drew a pair of walks. Leila Heller (Belle Chasse, La./Belle Chasse) was dealt the defeat in the circle, tossing 1.2 innings.
