OLD WESTBURY, N.Y — The St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) women's basketball team picked up their first Skyline Conference win of the season on Wednesday night in a 75-54 triumph over SUNY Old Westbury.Â
A back and forth first quarter saw the Bears trailing by one with less than a minute remaining in the first quarter, but a three pointer from Jasmine Chan-Clayton (Melbourne, Australia) gave the Bears a 15-13 lead. Another Chan-Clayton triple at the buzzer would give the Bears a three point lead after one quarter of play. The Bears then went on an 11-0 run to start the second quarter capped off by a fourth first-half three from Chan-Clayton. The Bears went into the half leading 38-23.Â
St. Joseph's would go on a 22-5 run throughout most of the third quarter led by Mercedes Perez (San Antonio, Texas) and Kristen Donovan (Maspeth, N.Y.) who had seven and five points respectively on the run. The Bears lead 60-34 heading to the fourth quarter. The Bears held firm in the fourth quarter for their first conference win of the 2025-26 season by a score of 75-54.
Chan-Clayton led the way for the Bears scoring 15 points on 50% shooting from beyond the arc. Donovan had 13 points shooting 3-3 from three point range and 5-6 from the field. Perez added 12 points and six assists in the victory. Nikki Grech (Northville, Mich.) and Emma Centrella (Varese, Italy) each had six rebounds in the win.
The Bears head back to Long Island on Saturday, December 6 at 1 p.m for a match-up with rival St. Joseph's (Long Island).
