DANBURY, CONN. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. – Brooklyn softball team dropped both ends of their non-conference doubleheader at Western Connecticut State University, 4-6 and 8-10 on Friday.Â
How it Happened (Game 1)
The Bears struck first on a Payton Walker (Eastvale, Calif.) homer in the first. Following a sac fly, the Wolves responded in the second with a homer of their own to lead 2-1. A three-run fourth followed as a string of RBI singles off the bats of Brielle Nelson (Chandler, Ariz.), Vivian Garcia (Eastvale, Calif.), and Olivia Martinez (Tomball, Texas) gave the Bears a 4-2 edge.
WestConn reclaimed the lead in their half of the sixth with four runs, coming on RBI base knocks and a double steal of second base and home plate, securing a 6-4 lead and eventually the win.
How it Happened (Game 2)
The first inning saw a combined 11 runs cross the plate. Lauren Van Der Kamp (Sacramento, Calif.) and Audrey Scott (Rocklin, Calif.) were each responsible for batting in a pair of runs each in the top of the inning. However, a two-run homer headlined the Wolves' six-run stanza; capping off the frame with an early 6-5 lead.
Each side added a run in the second before WestConn extended the lead to 9-6 with a pair of runs in the third. V. Scott and Garcia score in the fourth on a defensive miscue by the hosts before the Wolves benefited from an RBI double to secure a 10-8 result.
For the Bears (Game 1)

Garcia and Walker each had a pair of hits and an RBI. Walker had a home run and triple in the contest and scored a run. Garcia had the lone stolen base.

Martinez, Van Der Kamp, and Nelson all had hits.

Makena Burr (Foster City, Calif.) suffered the deficit in the circle.
For the Bears (Game 2)

Nelson and A. Scott had a pair of hits in the nightcap with the latter posting a pair of RBI.

Van Der Kamp also had two RBI to go with a run scored.

Garcia and Autumn Poppett (San Diego, Calif.) also had hits.

Poppett had a two strikeouts in the loss. Burr also had two K's in her 3.2 innings of relief.
