FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — Pablo Mejia (Elmhurst, N.Y.) etched his name into the St. Joseph's University, N.Y. – Brooklyn men's soccer record books on Saturday, becoming the program's all-time assists leader as the Bears battled Farmingdale State College to a 2-2 draw in their Skyline Conference opener at Rams Field.
The hosts took the lead midway through the first half, converting from the penalty spot in the 19th minute before doubling the advantage on a low finish in the 32nd. The Bears pulled one back before halftime when Veton Dudus (New York, N.Y.) slotted home his first goal of the season in the 39th minute, set up by Mejia. With that assist, the senior moved into sole possession of first place on the program's all-time assists chart, surpassing Thomas Mastoras' previous mark of 16.
The Bears drew level in the 77th minute when Lorenzo LaRosa (Astoria, N.Y.) found the back of the net for his first of the campaign, capitalizing on a deflection to place his shot into the top-right corner.
Mejia, Dudus, and Edwin Sacramento (Brooklyn, N.Y.) each had a pair of shots with the latter duo registering a shot on target. Goalkeeper Matthew Galetta (Bohemia, N.Y.) anchored the defensive effort with eight saves, including six in the second half, as St. Joseph's withstood a 23-shot barrage from the Rams.
