Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Visiting Manhattanville Tops Women's Basketball

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) women's basketball team faced an uphill battle on Saturday afternoon at The Hill Center as Manhattanville University topped the Bears, 83–52, in Skyline Conference action.

Both sides traded buckets early with neither leading by more than a possession for much of the opening period. Despite a three-pointer from Kristen Donovan (Maspeth, N.Y.) drained a pair of three-pointers in the first quarter with Mercedes Perez (San Antonio, Texas) added a triple of her own but the Valiants took a 22-17 lead into the second. Through the second period, Manhattanville continued to build momentum while the Bears struggled to find consistent offense, despite Donovan continuing to pace the offense, as St. Joseph's trailed 34–25 at halftime.

The Valiants extended their advantage in the third quarter behind aggressive drives and hot perimeter shooting. Jasmine Chan-Clayton (Melbourne, Australia) knocked down a three with 2:21 remaining to keep St. Joseph's within 10, but visitors pushed the margin to 60–41 by the end of the third. Behind a 23-11 fourth quarter, the visitors ballooned their lead en route to an 83-52 result, continuing their unbeaten stretch in league play.

Emma Centrella (Varese, Italy) led the game with 11 rebounds while Donovan had a team-leading 13 points, shooting 3-of-7 from beyond the arc. Perez finished with 12 points and four rebounds while Judith Vila (Vilassar de Mar, Spain) totaled nine.

The Bears look to bounce back on Wednesday, January 21 at 6 pm when they visit Farmingdale State College.
