Men's Basketball Earns Commanding Win over Mount Saint Vincent

RIVERDALE, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) men's basketball team earned a 99–73 road win over the University of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday afternoon at the Peter Jay Sharp Center.

The Dolphins scored first and briefly pushed in front 8–2, but the Bears flipped the opening stretch with a decisive 10–0 run. Austin Wrynn (Port Washington, N.Y.) started the run with a jumper, Jacob Idowu (Wiesbaden, Germany) finished two layups around another basket from Justin Munson (Middle Village, N.Y.), and Wrynn capped it with a layup to put St. Joseph's in front 15-10. From there, the Bears continued to score efficiently in the half, with Munson repeatedly converting at the rim and Idowu adding finishes in the paint, combining to score 32 points in the period, as St. Joseph's carried a 46–30 lead into halftime.

The Bears extended the margin early in the second half, building the lead with paint touches and ball movement that produced quick finishes. Midway through the period, St. Joseph's created separation again with an 8–0 burst: Blaise Corozzo (Howard Beach, N.Y.) knocked down a three moments after entering the contest, Idowu followed with a three of his own, and then finished a layup on the next scoring trip to push the advantage to 83–57. St. Joseph's continued to convert at a high rate down the stretch, reaching its high-water mark late as the margin hit 30.

Munson led the Bears with 27 points on 11-of-13 shooting, adding six rebounds and nine assists. Idowu finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds, along with five steals for his fourth double-double this season. Wrynn added 16 points, three rebounds, and three blocks, while Justin Nazon (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored 10 points. Colin Mills (White Plains, N.Y.) contributed nine points and five assists as all 13 Bears to see the floor registered a made field goal.

The victory gives the Bears their first triumph in Skyline Conference play this season. It also marked their first win over the Dolphins since splitting the season series in 2019-20.

The Bears return to The Hill Center on Wednesday, January 28 against Purchase College with tipoff slated for 6 pm.
