BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) women's basketball team dropped a 28-81 decision to the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday afternoon at The Hill Center.

Following a pair of baskets each way, the Mariners set the tone for the day with a 19-point run; leading 27-9 at the end of the opening period. They limited the Bears to two field goals in the second, from Mercedes Perez and Aaniya Telford, and 15 points in the first half.

Despite Perez leading all players with nine second-half points, the visitors continued to restrict the Bears' scoring opportunities in the second half, ultimately resulting in the Mariners' victory.

Perez finished with 14 points and seven rebounds. Nikki Grech followed with five points, as many rebounds, and a pair of steals. Emma Centrella and Kristen Donovan also had five boards each.

With this weekend's anticipated snowstorm impacting the region, the Bears' next game at Purchase College has been moved from Tuesday, January 27 to Wednesday, January 28 at 7 pm.
