Men's Soccer Rallies Past Yeshiva for First Skyline Victory

PARAMUS, N.J. — Three unanswered second-half goals lifted the St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) men's soccer team to a 3–2 comeback victory over Yeshiva University on Wednesday evening. The win marked the Bears' first Skyline Conference triumph of the season.

Yeshiva opened the scoring in the 14th minute on a goal from Franco Busso, who doubled the Maccabees' advantage from the penalty spot in the 23rd. The Bears were unable to find a response before halftime, entering the break trailing 2–0.

SJBK began its comeback in the 53rd minute when Francisco Garcia (Brooklyn, N.Y.) converted a penalty kick to cut the deficit in half. The Bears continued to press forward, drawing level in the 69th minute as Jared Nereo Flores (Brooklyn, N.Y.) set up Veton Dudus (Murray Hill, N.Y.) for the equalizer.

With the match still tied in the closing stages, Joaquin Franco (Brooklyn, N.Y.) broke the deadlock in the 84th minute, completing the comeback and giving the Bears its first conference victory of the campaign.

Franco netted his third goal of the season, while Garcia and Dudus each scored their second. Flores recorded his third assist of the campaign, and Matthew Galetta (Bohemia, N.Y.) made six saves, including five after halftime, to keep Yeshiva off the scoreboard in the second half.

Garcia, Dudus, Franco, and Joshua Lucano (Elmhurst, N.Y.) will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, October 17 as they face SUNY Purchase at 4:30 p.m.
