BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) women's basketball team defeated SUNY Old Westbury 82-53 on Wednesday evening at The Hill Center.
The Bears shot 50 percent from the floor and over 62 percent from three-point range, with
Mercedes Perez (San Antonio, Texas) and
Kristen Donovan (Maspeth, N.Y.) combining for 21 of the team's 27 first-quarter points on 5-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc.
Leading 27-15 entering the second, the Bears continued to apply pressure on the Panthers and outscoring the visitors 18-8 en route to a 45-23 halftime advantage.
Old Westbury took advantage of SJBK turnovers, converting 11 points. However, the Bears continued to stretch their lead by the end of the period, 64-40; ultimately seeing out the 82-53 win in their penultimate game of the season.
Perez lef the team with 25 points followed by Donovan's 15 and 10 by
Nikki Grech (Northville, Mich.).
Emma Centrella (Varese, Italy) pulled a game-high 18 rebounds to go with nine points. Grech and
Aaniya Telford (Brooklyn, N.Y.) each had seven boards. Perez had a game-best six assists while
Judith Vila (Vilassar de Mar, Spain) had four steals.
The Bears conclude the 2025-26 season on Saturday, February 21 against Sarah Lawrence College. Tip off is scheduled for 1 pm with Senior Day ceremonies for Telford and Donovan taking place pregame.
