KINGS POINT, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) men's basketball team ended the 2025-26 campaign with a 73–68 overtime victory at the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday afternoon.
The Bears trailed early, with the Mariners converting multiple inside finishes and three-point opportunities to take an initial lead. St. Joseph's responded midway through the first half as Jacob Idowu (Wiesbaden, Germany) scored at the rim and Maven Cummings (Brooklyn, N.Y.) contributed in the paint. However, USMMA reclaimed the lead and held a 32-29 advantage at the half.
Merchant Marine extended their lead to 10, 39-29, five minutes into the second half. Idowu opened the period with efficient finishes to keep St. Joseph's in front, while Justin Munson (Middle Village, N.Y.) and Justin Nazon (Staten Island, N.Y.) knocked down timely buckets to maintain separation. USMMA made repeated runs late in regulation to knot the contest but were unable to seal it at the charity stripe, going 1-for-4 at the line, resulting in overtime. In the bonus period, the Bears maintained control largely through free-throw conversions to close out the campaign with the road win.
Idowu led the Bears with 20 points, adding 19 rebounds in an all-around effort. Munson also scored 20 points and added nine rebounds, while Colin Mills (White Plains, N.Y.) totaled 11 points and Nazon added seven rebounds and six points.
The Bears finished the season at 9-16 (6–10 Skyline), the most wins in a season since their return from the COVID-19 pandemic. Their six league wins are the most since achieving the same total in the 2018-19 season. That season was also the last time the Bears won two overtime games in a single season.
