MADISON, N.J. — The St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) baseball team opened their 2026 season on Friday afternoon, falling to FDU-Florham 3-24.
Vincent Camerada (Staten Island, N.Y.), who drew a leadoff walk, scored the first run of the game in the first, scoring on a defensive miscue by the hosts. The Devils responded with an RBI single in the bottom half of the inning to equalize. The Bears reclaimed the advantage their next time up to bat as Justin Alas' (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) ground ball allowed fellow newcomer Daniel Banach (Valley Stream, N.Y.) to score.
FDU broke the game open in the bottom of the second. They took the lead on an SJBK error followed by a double, 3-2. A bases-clearing triple followed by another defensive lapse saw the Devil lead to 9-2. They crossed double figures in the third before combining for 10 runs in the subsequent three innings.
Camerada crossed the plate a second time in the seventh, scoring on William King's (Springfield Gardens, N.Y.) two-out double. The Devils sealed their 24-3 result with four runs in their half of the eighth.
Jayden Loccisano (Massapequa, N.Y.) registered a 2-for-3 game at the plate. Camerada, King, and Daniel Popovitch (Brick, N.J.) all had extra-base hits.
On the bump, Nicholas Mirabella (Whitestone, N.Y.) was tabbed with the loss after 1.2 innings pitched. Antonio Moran (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Kris Vinski (Bridgehampton, N.Y.) combined for three strikeouts in relief.
The Bears open their home schedule on Friday, March 6 at 3 pm against Lehman College. The contest is scheduled to take place at Clover Stadium, home of the New York Boulders of the Frontier League, in Pomona, N.Y.
