MADISON, N.J. — The St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) baseball team dropped a 6-17 decision to Saint Elizabeth University on Friday afternoon.
The Eagles surged to a 6–0 lead after the first inning, highlighted by a bases-loaded double midway through the frame that cleared the bags. Nicholas Mirabella (Whitestone, N.Y.) then tossed two innings of scoreless relief, allowing just one hit during the stretch.
The hosts added to their lead with a 10-run fourth inning, and an RBI triple in the fifth pushed the advantage to 17–0.
St. Joseph's got on the board with a bases-loaded walk in the seventh. George Demacopoulos (Flushing, N.Y.) then cleared the bases with a double to left, before Daniel Popovitch (Brick, N.J.) followed with a two-run double as the Bears plated six in the frame. Unable to add any more runs, the game came to a close as Saint Elizabeth secured the run-rule victory.
Demacopoulos and Justin Haluck (Plainedge, N.Y.) each recorded two-hit performances, with the former driving in a team-high three RBIs. Joe Meglio (Howard Beach, N.Y.) also notched a hit in the loss. Mike Dedella (Pemberton, N.J.) and Ronan Garrett (South Berwick, Maine) each struck out two on the mound, with Garrett recording the first strikeouts of his collegiate career. Antonio Moran (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was charged with the loss, falling to 0–2 on the season.
The Bears will travel to the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational for the first time since 2019. They open play on Monday, March 16, with matchups against the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point at 10:15 a.m. and the University of Wisconsin–Stout at 1:45 p.m.
