THROGGS NECK, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) baseball team dropped Skyline Conference games to SUNY Maritime College, 1-12 and 0-8, on Saturday afternoon at Reinhart Field.
Game 1
The Privateers benefited from an early home run in the first. A pair of singles and a bases-loaded walk gave them a 4-0 cushion. A quiet third and uneventful fourth was followed by Maritime plating six in the fifth, blowing the game open.
The Bears avoided the shutout in the seventh as Justin Haluck (Plainedge, N.Y.) scored on a George Demacopolous (Flushing, N.Y.) single.
Haluck and Joe Meglio (Howard Beach, N.Y.) each had 2-for-4 games at the plate. Matt Arcati (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Daniel Popovitch (Brick, N.J.) also had hits. Nicholas Mirabella (Whitestone, N.Y.) had a pair of strikeouts in the loss.
Game 2
A scoreless first inning was followed by a five-run second by the hosts. Maritime went yard twice in the seventh, adding an eighth in the following frame to confirm the 8-0 scoreline.
Arcati went 2-for-3. Haluck and Chris Perez (Bronx, N.Y.) each had doubles. Antonio Moran (Brooklyn, N.Y.) struck out six in 6.1 innings. He was tabbed with the defeat.
The Bears travel to SUNY New Paltz on Tuesday, March 31 at 12 pm.
