BRONX, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) baseball team outslugged Baruch College for a 22–15 road win on Tuesday afternoon at Ohio Field on the campus of Bronx Community College.
After Justin Haluck (Plainedge, N.Y.) crossed the plate to open the scoring in the first, the Bears broke the game open with a six-run second to take a 7–0 lead. Daniel Banach (Valley Stream, N.Y.) delivered an RBI double in the frame, while Haluck later drove in two with a single. Christopher Stegmuller (Baldwin, N.Y.) added a two-RBI hit, and a sacrifice fly capped the inning.
Banach stayed hot in the third with a triple as St. Joseph's pushed its lead to 10–0 before Baruch answered. Both teams traded three-run frames in the fourth—St. Joseph's using a bases-loaded walk and a two-run double—to carry a 13–7 advantage into the fifth.
After a quiet sixth, the offenses picked back up, with the Bears outscoring the Bearcats, 9–8, across the seventh and eighth innings. William King (Springfield Gardens, N.Y.) doubled to lead off the seventh and scored on Vincent Camerada's (Staten Island, N.Y.) single, while Haluck added a two-run single later in the inning.
Leading 17–9 in the eighth, the Bears added five more runs on a fielder's choice, a bases-loaded walk, and two sacrifice flies to extend the lead to 22–9. Baruch responded with six in the bottom half, but St. Joseph's held on as the game was called due to darkness.
Banach went 4-for-5 at the plate with a triple and a pair of doubles, scoring four runs and batting in three. Haluck went 3-for-4 with a double, stolen base, four runs, and five RBI. Stegmuller had four RBI and a 1-for-4 day at the plate with two runs scored while Camerada batted in three runs. Four Bears, Jayden Loccisano (Massapequa, N.Y,) , George Demacopoulos (Flushing, N.Y.), Daniel Popovitch (Brick, N.J.), and Justin Alas (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) all had a pair of hits.
All four SJBK pitchers recorded at least a strikeout with Brian Danowski (East Quogue, N.Y.) earning his first collegiate win, tossing three innings of relief and allowing just one run.
The Bears conclude the season series with City College of New York on Thursday, April 16 at 3 pm in New Rochelle.
