RIVERDALE, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) men's volleyball team closed out the 2026 regular season with a Skyline Conference victory over the University of Mount Saint Vincent, 3–1 (25-19, 25-21, 22-25, 25–21) on Saturday afternoon.
The Bears opened the match by taking the first set behind the more efficient attack. Hitting .250 in the frame and used eight kills against four errors to offset the Dolphins' 11-kill set, staying in front long enough to secure the 25–19 win. Jeremias Martinez (Elmhurst, N.Y.) spearheaded the attack with four kills in the set.
The second set was the Bears' sharpest of the afternoon, piling up 14 kills with just two errors on 24 attempts for a .500 hitting percentage. Rookies Trey DeMeo (Barnegat, N.J.) and Etvola Sango (Kinshasa, DR Congo) combined for nine of the 14 kills, turning the offensive rhythm into a 25–21 set win and a two-set lead.
Mount Saint Vincent answered in the third, holding slight edge through much of the set and capitalizing on a few Bears' attacking errors to keep St. Joseph's from gaining momentum. The Bears stayed within striking distance, getting points from Martinez and DeMeo but were unable to string together a sustained run. The Dolphins used that steady pressure to maintain control late and secure the set, 25–22, extending the match.
The Bears regrouped in the fourth and closed the match with another efficient offensive set. Corey Zaccagna (Barnegat, N.J.) propelled the attack with four kills, followed by three from Martinez, enough to hold off UMSV's late push to lock up the 25–21 set victory and the match.
Martinez finished with a match-leading 16 kills and added four digs and an ace, while DeMeo followed with 13 kills on a .524 hitting percentage along with an ace and four digs. Zaccagna added five kills, and Sango contributed five kills and a team-high two blocks. Jack Buscaglia (Hackensack, N.J.) directed the offense with 34 assists, three aces, and a team-best seven digs, while Matthew Cottone (Oakdale, N.Y.) added six digs.Â
At 11–9 overall and 8–6 in Skyline play, the Bears close the regular season with a program record for single-season wins and secure the No. 4 seed in next week's Skyline Conference Men's Volleyball Championship. They will travel to sibling school and top-seeded St. Joseph's (Long Island) for the semifinal match on Wednesday, April 8 at 7 p.m. Additional details, including ticket information, will be announced in the coming days.
