KINGS POINT, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) men's soccer team fell to the United States Merchant Marine Academy, 7–0, on Friday evening.
The Bears kept the Mariners off the board through the opening 28 minutes, with Matthew Galetta (Bohemia, N.Y.) making his first save in the 21st minute. Robert Derwin broke through for USMMA in the 29th before Colin Robertson doubled the advantage in the 41st minute. Ebrahim Solo Darboe (Serekunda, The Gambia) produced SJBK's lone attempt of the half, forcing a save in the eighth minute.
The hosts added a third shortly after the restart before scoring twice in a 41-second span in the 61st and 62nd minutes to extend its lead to 5–0. The Mariners added two more over the final 19 minutes to close out the scoring.
Galetta finished with nine saves for the Bears, while SJBK registered two shots, both on goal, with Joaquin Franco (Brooklyn, N.Y.) producing the second in the 88th minute.
The Bears are back in action next Saturday, October 3 at 2:30 pm against Manhattanville University.
