Matthew Kriss joined Pete Blumenauer’s staff at SJC Brooklyn for his first season in 2019.
Kriss brings to the Bears four years of Division I playing experience at Iona College from 2010-13. He was a four-year starter for the Gaels, primarily at shortstop, and served as team captain his junior and senior years.
As a senior, he earned 2013 First Team All-MAAC honors as well as 2013 Second Team All-ECAC accolades. He finished his collegiate career with 180 career hits which still ranks among the top 10 all-time at Iona.
A Long Island native, Kriss competed in the New York Collegiate Baseball League for the Rome Thunderbirds in 2011 and was named an NYCBL All-Star and Second Team All-NYCBL that season. The following summer he played for the Westhampton Aviators in the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League.
Kriss also played under Coach Blumenauer at Islip High School from 2006-09, winning the state championship his sophomore season and was an All-League selection as both a junior and senior.
After graduating from Iona, he served as a head coach in the Diamond Buddies 16U travel baseball program based out of White Plains from 2013-14.
Kriss holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Iona College and a Masters in Special Education from Touro College. He is currently a teacher at Tiegerman High School in Queens and resides in Islip.
