St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn appointed Joe Giacchi as the head coach of the women's basketball program in April 2023. With over 10 years of coaching experience, Giacchi brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to the role, succeeding Tom Flahive who retired at the end of the 2022-23 season.
Giacchi, formerly an assistant coach at Caldwell University, has a successful track record, including leading his team to the NCAA Tournament in 2018. From November 2021 to January 2022, Giacchi stepped in as acting head coach of the Division II institution; picking up his first head coaching win against Mercy College. He posted a 7-5 record in the stretch while his Cougars placed first in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference North Division standings. His side also ranked second in Division II in defensive rebounds.
In November 2023, Giacchi was named Assistant Athletic Director for Recreation and Facilities. In this capacity, Giacchi will oversee the day-to-day operational aspects of The Hill Center and St. Angela turf facility as well as coordinating off-campus field rentals and providing supervision for multiple home sporting events. He held a similar role at Caldwell; supervising their on-campus fitness center as well as the men's lacrosse and sprint football teams. Giacchi also served on Caldwell's Athletics Hall of Fame and golf outing, and Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) committees.
Giacchi obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Caldwell University and a Master of Science degree from West Virginia University. A native of Totowa, N.J. Giacchi, along with his wife Chelsea, resides in Hazlet, N.J.Â
