PURCHASE, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) women's basketball team endured a two-point defeat at the hands of Purchase College, 68-65, on Thursday evening.
Destiny Hurt (Elmont, N.Y./Sewanhaka) and Kristen Donovan (Maspeth, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) led all scorers I scoring; dropping 27 and 19 points, respectively.
How it Happened
Grace Kennedy's (Maspeth, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) opened the contest with a jumper but a Panther triple quickly swung the advantage in their favor. The Bears managed to level the contest at seven before heading into the second quarter trailing 19-15.
Purchase increased the edge to 23-17 to begin the second stanza. At 5:14, Hurt erased an SJBK deficit, tying the game at 27-all. It was followed by the hosts scoring nine of the next 13 points to hold a 36-31 halftime.
The Bears held on in the second half, down by no more than nine in the third quarter. A 12-2 run began late in the period, on a Donovan bucket, ending two minutes into the fourth quarter; knotting the proceedings at 55. Trailing by no more than two possessions the rest of the way, the Bears came to within two before falling 68-65.

Hurt was a point shy of matching a season-best. She also had six steals and as many rebounds.

Donovan had five assists and four boards to go with her 19 points.

Shanna Bliss (Astoria, N.Y./Bryant) collected a team-leading 10 caroms. She also finished with three steals.

Five of Kennedy's eight rebounds came on the offensive glass. She also totaled eight points.
