PURCHASE, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) men's basketball team lost their Skyline Conference contest to Manhattanville College, 72-44, on Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened
The Valiants put the Bears in an early 12-0 hole. Despite cutting the deficit to as little as seven, 14-7, the hosts immediately restored their double-digit advantage, leading 36-14 at the half.
Manhattanville's lead grew to as many as 38 with 8:02 in the second. Chris Williams (Trenton, N.J./Nottingham) and Nazareth Warren (Brooklyn, N.Y./Spring Creek Campus) combined to score 16 second-half points. Their efforts, however, were not enough to turn the result around, ultimately falling by 28.
Williams led the team in scoring with 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting. Warren followed up with eight points and a joint-game-high seven rebounds, including three offensive boards The trio of Joshua Gordon (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin), Stephan Direny (Brooklyn, N.Y./Achievement First), and Max Butler (Staten Island, N.Y./Port Richmond) combined to collect 15 caroms, five rebounds each. The Bears did shoot 9-of-11 from the free-throw line compared to the Valiants' 3-of-7.
