BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. – Brooklyn men's soccer team were on the losing end of a 1-3 result against Manhattanville University on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Bears to 1-1-2 in Skyline Conference play.
The Valiants struck first courtesy of a spot kick in the 22nd minute, adding a second goal with less than 10 minutes remaining in the first half, resulting in the 2-0 scoreline. 10 minutes into the second stanza, Victor Naci (Bordeaux, France/Bernard Palissy) chipped a shot over the arms of Manhattanville's goalkeeper to trim the Bears' deficit to 2-1. However, the hosts restored their two-goal advantage to hand the Bears their first deficit in league play.
Naci and Diego Volpe (Long Branch, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) each had three shots, combining for four shots on target, while Pablo Mejia (Elmhurst, N.Y./Academy of Finance and Enterprise) and Lorenzo LaRosa (Astoria, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) each had two shots. Rookie goalkeeper Alex Castro (Miami, Fla./Christopher Columbus) had a pair of saves.
The Bears return to the confines of Aviator Field on Wednesday, October 9 against the SUNY College at Old Westbury. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
