Mejia Lifts Men's Soccer Past Old Westbury

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. – Brooklyn men's soccer team secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over SUNY College at Old Westbury on Wednesday afternoon at Aviator Field. 

The Bears dominated the shot count, outshooting the Panthers 31-13 over 90 minutes, but neither team was able to score in the first half. St. Joseph's broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute when Pablo Mejia's slow roller slipped past the Old Westbury goalkeeper's left side, giving the Bears the lead and sealing the 1-0 win.

For the Bears

  • Mejia scored his second goal of the season.

  • Victor Naci (Bordeaux, France) had match-highs of nine shots and five shots on target.

  • Diego Volpe (Long Branch, N.J.) and Lorenzo LaRosa (Astoria, N.Y.) had six and seven shots, respectively.

  • Alex Castro (Miami, Fla.) finished with five saves.
