BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. – Brooklyn men's basketball team dropped a 53-73 decision to Oglethorpe University on Saturday afternoon at The Hill Center. The loss is the Bears' first of the season, falling to 1-1 overall.
How it Happened
The Bears and Stormy Petrels were neck-and-neck for much of the first half with the score deadlocked at 16 on a Timothy Richardson (Ozone Park, N.Y.) triple crossing the eight-minute mark. Trailing 21-19, Colin Mills (White Plains, N.Y.) drained a three-pointer followed by three free throws to kick start a 12-3 spurt; capped off by a Joshua Gordon (Brooklyn, N.Y.) dunk courtesy of a lob from Justin Nazon (Staten Island, N.Y.). Following the Bears' 33-22 advantage, Oglethorpe closed the half by netting 11 unanswered points, resulting in a 33-33 halftime score.
The Bears' lead was restored to five, thanks to five points from Jonathan Reno (Staten Island, N.Y.) to start the second half, 40-35. However, the visitors would reclaim the advantage, possessing a 10-point lead at 9:53, 54-44. The Bears were unable to trim the deficit to single digits, falling 73-53.
