BROOKLYN N.Y—The St. Joseph's University, NY (Brooklyn) men's basketball team kicked off its 2024-25 campaign with a 59-52 home victory over the Pratt Institute Cannoneers on Friday evening at The Hill Center.Â
How it Happened
Despite a first half-offensive struggle, the Bears showed out defensively. After a 9-0 run to start the game for the Cannoneers, the Bears clawed their way back to carry a 26-23 lead into halftime fueled by nie points from Noah Gray (Panama City, Fla.) and six from Colin Mills (White Plains, N.Y.).Â
Two quick baskets from Pratt to start the second half would regain the lead for the Cannoneers, but Jonathan Reno (Staten Island, N.Y./Moore Catholic) would answer right back with a layup to retake the lead for the Bears. Despite being tied twice throughout the second half, once at 34 and again at 38, the Bears would never trail again leading them to a 1-0 start on the season and a 59-52 win. Mills dropped 13 points in the half while Reno, Alex Macheras (Sandy Spring, Md.), and Timothy Richardson (Ozone Park, N.Y.) all had five points in the stretch.

- Reno had seven points and three assists in the victory.
