BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. – Brooklyn women's basketball team opened its Skyline Conference slate with a 57-84 defeat to St. Joseph's (Long Island) on Wednesday evening at The Hill Center.
How it Happened
Fueled by junior Megan Spina, the Golden Eagles quickly overwhelmed the Bears in the first quarter, claiming the period 29-9. The Bears would outscore their rivals in the second behind efforts from Kristen Donovan (Maspeth, N.Y.) and Aaniya Telford (Brooklyn, N.Y.) but trailed 45-27 at the half.
Telford brought the gap to 15 at the start of the third quarter as Brooklyn hovered over the margin throughout the stanza, ultimately trailing 62-44 entering the closing period. In the fourth, the Bears were unable to further trim the deficit – despite continued contributions from Donovan, Telford, and Jasmine Chan-Clayton (Melbourne, Australia) – as they fell 84-57.
