BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. – Brooklyn men's basketball team earned a 64-61 victory over Penn State Abington on Saturday afternoon at The Hill Center.
How it Happened
The Nittany Lions held a 10-point advantage with 9:34 to play in the first half, 25-15, the largest lead either team possessed in the contest. The rookie combo of Maven Cummings (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Timothy Richardson (Ozone Park, N.Y.) reduced the Bears' deficit to four; followed by offensive bursts from Nazareth Warren (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Chris Williams (Trenton, N.J.), bringing the visitors' lead down to 29-28. Despite the comeback attempt, the Nittany Lions maintained a 36-32 lead heading into halftime.
An incredibly close second half featured six ties and seven lead changes, with neither side leading by more than six. Warren and Noah Gray (Panama City, Fla.) contributed on offense to see the navy-and-gray hold a 59-58 lead before Penn State Abington swung the advantage back in their favor with two minutes remaining, 61-59.
In the final 1:47, Justin Nazon (Staten Island, N.Y.) tied the game from the charity stripe, setting the stage for Colin Mills (White Plains, N.Y.), who had already scored 20 points, to hit a game-winning three-pointer with six seconds remaining, securing SJBK's 64-61 victory.
