Men's Basketball Downed by Saint Elizabeth

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. – Brooklyn men's basketball team dropped their non-conference finale to Saint Elizabeth University, 73-82, on Monday night at The Hill Center.

How it Happened

The Eagles held a narrow lead for much of the first half, leading by no more than five through the first 10 minutes. Trailing 18-15 with 11:33 remaining, Colin Mills (White Plains, N.Y.) sparked an 8-0 surge to give the Bears a 23-18 advantage. SEU restored their lead but contributions from Mills and Joshua Gordon (Brooklyn, N.Y.) in the final 63 seconds reduced the visitors' lead to 41-39 at the break.

Saint Elizabeth gradually built a double-digit lead in the second half, maintaining a 12-point advantage at 13:08, 58-46. A four-point play by Timothy Richardson (Ozone Park, N.Y.) brought St. Joseph's within four, 63-59. However, that was as close as the Bears would get, as SEU regained their double-digit lead and extended it to 14 points at 3:33. The Eagles then held on to secure an 82-73 victory.

For the Bears

  • Mills led all players with 28 points, nearing a double-double thanks to seven rebounds. He also had four assists and as many steals.

  • Justin Nazon (Staten Island, N.Y.) registered an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double; adding three assists and two steals.

  • Gordon rounded out players in double-figures, dropping 11 points and collecting five rebounds. He also had a pair of blocks.

  • Seven of Richardson's nine points occurred in the second half.

  • Adam Jasaraj (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished with five rebounds and a trio of assists.

  • Noah Gray (Panama City, Fla.) and Alex Macheras (Sandy Spring, Md.) each had four boards and four points.

  • The Bears eclipsed the Eagles in bench points, 28-3, and points on fast breaks, 21-9.
