THROGGS NECK, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) men's basketball team were unable to best SUNY Maritime College on Saturday afternoon, falling 75-81.
How it Happened
The Privateers set the pace early on, leading 13-3 within the first seven minutes of play. Their advantage grew to 20, 41-21, before the Bears mounted a late charge, closing the gap to 50-40 at halftime thanks to a combined 14-point effort in the final five minutes of the period from Chris Williams (Trenton, N.J./Nottingham) and Chris Tracy (Glendale, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy).
Maritime led by as many as 19, 66-47, at the 11:19 mark of the second half. On the ensuing possession, Evan Sirakis (Hollis Hills, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) hit a three pointer, the first of his 10 points over a six-plus-minute span. The 10 points were part of a 17-3 SJBK run to significantly reduce their deficit to 69-64. A James Mojica (South Ozone Park, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) triple with 20 seconds on the clock saw the Bears trail by four, 79-75, before time ran out on the Bears; falling 81-75.

Sirakis posted a team-best 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting. He collected five rebounds, dished out four assists, and forced three steals.

Jonathan Reno (Staten Island, N.Y./Moore Catholic) had 20 points and shot 4-for-6 from three-point distance.

The Bears banked 50-percent of their three pointers (13-for-26) compared to Maritime's 41.9-percent (13-of-31).
