FORT MYERS, FLA. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) softball team dropped games to Greenville University and the Rochester Institute of Technology on Tuesday morning in their second day at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.
The Bears fell to the Panthers, 2-13, before being topped by the Tigers, 0-9. In the opening game, senior
Arianna Heinsch (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall Academy) formally eclipsed the 100-hit plateau.
How it Happened vs. Greenville
A pair of runs crossed the plate in the first for the Panthers. Heinsch's single in the bottom of the inning marked her milestone hit, scoring on
Vivian Garcia's (Eastvale, Calif./Eleanor Roosevelt) single later in the frame.
Greenville tacked on a run in the second and three in the third to lead 6-1. In the bottom of the third Garcia – who singled to center – scored on
Olivia Martinez's (Tomball, Texas/Tomball Memorial) double, reducing their deficit to 6-2.
Seven runs in the fourth and fifth innings secured Greenville's 11-run decision.
How it Happened vs. RIT
The Tigers' starting pitcher, Jessica Majot, stifled the Bears' offense, conceding only two baserunners throughout the game, one of whom was
Payton Walker (Eastvale, Calif./Eleanor Roosevelt), responsible for the Bears' sole hit. RIT managed to score all nine of their runs within the first three innings, securing the outcome.
For the Bears vs. Greenville
- Garcia went 2-for-2 with a run and RBI.
- Martinez went 1-for-2 with an RBI.
- Makena Burr (Foster City, Calif./San Mateo) started her first collegiate game in the circle and was tabbed with the defeat.
For the Bears vs. RIT
- Walker batted 1-for-2.
- Autumn Poppett (San Diego, Calif./Mission Hills) was dealt the loss, tossing three innings.
