DANBURY, CONN. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) softball team posted a split of their non-conference doubleheader against Western Connecticut State University, dropping game one 1-11 before collecting a 9-3 win on Friday evening.

How it Happened (Game 1)

The Wolves scored runs in each of the five innings contested. The Bears got on the board in the fourth, courtesy of Payton Walker's (Eastvale, Calif./Eleanor Roosevelt) RBI single.

Leading 7-1 in the bottom of the fifth, WestConn plated four runs; earning a run-rule victory, 11-1.

How it Happened (Game 2)

Highlighted by Jessica Jakob's (Covina, Calif./Edgewood) RBI single, the Bears had a three-run spark in the first inning, holding on to the advantage throughout the nightcap.

Leading 3-1, the navy and gray saw three more runs cross the plate in the fifth. Sandwiched between a pair of errors allowing runs to score, Autumn Poppett's (San Diego, Calif./Mission Hills) single sent Vivian Garcia (Eastvale, Calif./Eleanor Roosevelt) home. A two-RBI single from Brianna Malvino in the bottom of the inning cut the SJBK lead in half, 6-3.

The Bears saw their 9-3 result confirmed thanks to a pair of runs in the sixth and Lauren Van Der Kamp's (Sacramento, Calif./Rosemont) RBI single in the seventh.
