BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) softball team collected 12-1 and 13-3 wins over Brooklyn College on Thursday night.
How it Happened (Game 1)
Bulldog miscues allowed a pair of runs to score in the second and third innings however, the hosts would reduce their deficit to 2-1 on a Bears error in the fourth.
In the fifth, Sofia Logreco (San Diego, Calif./Mission Hills) doubled to center field, sending home the Bears' third and fourth runs of the contest. She scored later in the inning on Lauren Van Der Kamp's (Sacramento, Calif./Rosemont) single to left, lifting the Bears to a 5-1 lead.
Vivian Garcia's (Eastvale, Calif./Eleanor Roosevelt) two-RBI single in the sixth headlined a seven-run sixth inning en route to a run-rule victory, 12-1.
Autumn Poppett (San Diego, Calif./Mission Hills) earned her first win of the season in the circle, allowing the Bulldog's lone run while fanning nine.
How it Happened (Game 2)
The Bears jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first as Garcia's single plated Bella Gomez (Whittier, Calif./Sonora) before scoring herself two plays later. The Bulldogs retaliated with a pair of runs in their end of the inning.
Following a scoreless second, back-to-back triples from Payton Walker (Eastvale, Calif./Eleanor Roosevelt) and Poppett saw the Bears take a 4-2 lead, growing to 5-2 shortly after. Hannah Whitson (Silverdale, Wash./Olympic) singled in a pair of runs in the final at-bat of the frame; giving the Bears a 7-2 advantage.
The margin grew to 9-1 courtesy of runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Brooklyn College added a run of their own in the bottom of the fifth before a fourth-run seventh – spearheaded by RBI triples from Whitson and Walker – sealed the Bears' 13-3 win.
