STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) baseball team garnered a Friday afternoon split with the City College of New York; winning game one 3-2 before falling 1-9 in game two.
How it Happened (Game 1)
Miguel Toribio (Brooklyn, N.Y./Williamsburg Prep) led off the second inning with a single to left before taking a swipe at second base shortly after. He scored later in the frame on
Matt Arcati's (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) double.
Toribio was responsible for the Bears' two runs in the third as his single sent
Chris Arcati (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) and
Sean Schneeberg (Sacramento, Calif./Del Oro) home.
On the bump,
Mike Dedella (Pemberton, N.J./Pemberton Township) conceded two runs, both coming in the fourth, while striking out four Beavers en route to his second win of the season and the Bears' 3-2 victory.
How it Happened (Game 2)
The Bears again drew first blood via
Michael Gardener's (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) sacrifice fly. However, CCNY hit SJBK for seven runs in the first two innings; including five in the bottom of the first.
The Beavers added runs in the fourth and fifth innings to confirm their 9-1 result and a split of the non-conference twinbill.
For the Bears (Game 1)
- Schneeberg and C. Arcati each went 2-for-4 with a run scored
- Toribio scored a run in addition to his two RBI.
- M. Arcati registered the lone extra-base hit of the contest.
- Dylan Cantwell (Island Park, N.Y./Long Beach) picked up his first collegiate save.
For the Bears (Game 2)
- Schneeberg and C. Arcati repeated their 2-for-4 games in the nightcap; each notching a two-bagger.
- Chris Stegmuller (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) went 2-for-2 with a double.
- Anthony Faggiano (Hicksville, N.Y./Bethpage) rounded out an SJBK quartet with doubles.
- Thomas Jankowski (Middle Village, N.Y./Maspeth) started on the hill, tossing a pair of innings in defeat (1-2).
