STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) baseball team suffered a 5-6 and 1-17 defeat to Skidmore College on Sunday afternoon.
How it Happened (Game 1)
After conceding the game's opening run in the first, the Bears responded with a two-
RBI single from Brian Sanchez (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun). Nick Tapio's (Sacramento, Calif./Christian Brothers) double down the left-field line brought in Michael Gardener (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale), giving the navy and gray a 3-1 advantage.
Two of the first three Skidmore bats walked in the top of the fifth, setting the stafe for a Sam Kornet three-run home run. The Bears responded in the bottom half of the frame, tying the contest at four before Dominic Yumul (Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands/Marianas) swung the lead back in the SJBK's favor courtesy of an RBI single, 5-4.
How it Happened (Game 2)
The Thoroughbreds again scored in their half of the first before breaking the game open with a combined 13 runs between the third and fifth innings, including a six-run fourth.
A pair of doubles in the sixth saw the Thoroughbreds take a 6-5 lead, holding on to the result at the conclusion of the contest. Joe Meglio (Howard Beach, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) scored the Bears' lone run in the sixth before the visitors added three additional runs to secure the 17-1 result.

Nicholas Mirabella (Whitestone, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) had three strikeouts in relief.
