JERSEY CITY, N.J. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) men's volleyball team fell to New Jersey City University, 3-0 (7-25, 8-25, 11-25), on Tuesday evening in a Skyline Conference matchup.
How it Happened
Despite starting the opening set on the right foot, the Gothic Knights took a 7-2 advantage, forcing an SJBK timeout. On the other side of the brief intermission, the hosts' 18-5 run led to NJCU taking the set, 25-7. Alex Helfant (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy International) had three kills during the spell.
Frank Tello's (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy International) ace saw the Bears take a 2-0 advantage to begin the second set. However, NJCU notched 14 unanswered points as part of a 25-8 set triumph.
Helfant and Lasha Kemashvili (Brooklyn, N.Y./James Madison) recorded kills for St. Joseph's in the third set but New Jersey City's commanding lead to begin the frame contributed to their 25-11 set win and straight-set victory.

Helfant, Leonel Bravo (Astoria, N.Y./Queens Vocational & Technical), and Keiran McMullan (Farmingdale, N.Y./Plainedge) all brought up six digs.
