BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — Coming off her Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week honor, freshman Payton Walker (Eastvale, Calif./Eleanor Roosevelt) powered the offense for the St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) softball team in their games against No. 22 Ramapo College on Wednesday night. However, the Roadrunners bested the Bears 2-6 and 4-6.
How it Happened (Game 1)
A pair of RBI extra-base hits from Sofia Logreco (San Diego, Calif./Mission Hills) and Autumn Poppett (San Diego, Calif./Mission Hills) provided the navy and gray with a 2-0 advantage in the bottom of the first.
The Roadrunners reduced their deficit in half in the third before Ysabellah Otero's lead-off home run in the fourth tied the game. They tallied two more runs, followed by a pair in the fifth, to see out the 6-2 game-one win.
How it Happened (Game 2)
Walker drilled a homer over the left center fence in the bottom of the first, giving the navy-and-gray an early 1-0 edge. She followed it up in her next plate appearance – this time with Bella Gomez (Whittier, Calif./Sonora) and over the centerfield fence – extending the lead to 3-0.
Ramapo responded with a five-run fourth inning to swing the advantage in their favor, tacking a sixth in the fifth. A double-steal in the bottom of the fifth saw Logreco advance to second and Walker scoring the Bears' fourth run; trimming the deficit to two.
The 22nd-ranked team in the nation, according to the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association, held on to the 6-4 triumph as the contest was called after 5.1 innings due to darkness.
For the Bears (Game 1)

Walker went 2-for-3 with a double and run scored.

Poppett also doubled, finishing 1-for-3. She logged a pair of strikeouts in the circle.

Leila Heller (Belle Chasse, La./Belle Chasse) started in the circle, striking out four Roadrunners in the defeat.
