Poppett Reaches 100 Strikeouts in Softball’s Split of Mount Saint Mary

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) softball team split their Saturday afternoon Skyline Conference doubleheader with Mount Saint Mary College, winning game one 3-0 before falling 1-7 in game two.

In the first inning of game one, senior pitcher Autumn Poppett (San Diego, Calif./Mission Hills) earned her 100th career strikeout.

How it Happened (Game 1)

Poppett's milestone came two batters into the contest. The Bears provided her with a 2-0 lead after one thanks to an RBI single from Sofia Logreco (San Diego, Calif./Mission Hills) before scoring on Payton Walker's (Eastvale, Calif./Eleanor Roosevelt) double.

Walker once again saw an RBI double, this time coming in the bottom of the fifth to plate Vivian Garcia (Eastvale, Calif./Eleanor Roosevelt).

Poppett allowed four base runners through the first six innings. She pulled out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the seventh to confirm the Bears' 3-0 game one win.

How it Happened (Game 2)

Following a pair of scoreless innings, the Knights scored their first set of runs of the day, putting up seven in the third frame. Poppett scored the Bears' lone run – on Makena Burr's (Foster City, Calif./San Mateo) sacrifice bunt – in the fourth but their deficit was too much to overcome, falling 7-1.

For the Bears (Game 1)

  • Walker finished 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and RBI.

  • Four Bears went 1-for-3.

  • Logreco, Garcia, and Arianna Heinsch (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall Academy) scored the Bears' runs.

  • Poppett totaled four strikeouts and allowed just one walk.

For the Bears (Game 2)
