KINGS POINT, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) baseball team dropped both ends of their Skyline Conference doubleheader to the United States Merchant Marine Academy, 0-4 and 6-8, on Saturday afternoon from Bartoszek Field.
How it Happened (Game 1)
A pair of hits with two outs resulted in the Mariners' first two runs of the contest in the home half of the opening inning.
Rookie pitcher Dylan Cantwell (Island Park, N.Y./Long Beach) went on to toss three scoreless innings however, the hosts added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth. The Bears went down in order in the sixth and seventh inning as they dropped a 4-0 decision.
How it Happened (Game 2)
Miguel Toribio (Brooklyn, N.Y./Williamsburg Prep) headlined a two-run first for the navy and gray with an RBI single. A Brian Sanchez (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) ground-rule double saw Alex Goldberg (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) cross the plate to lead 3-0.
Goldberg was responsible for the Bears' fourth run in the top of the sixth as his single to short scored Chris Stegmuller (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin). Following a two-RBI single from Charles Cahalan in the bottom of the sixth, Jack Millen's bases-clearing triple swung the lead in the Mariners' favor, 5-4, before scoring a sixth later in the stanza.
The Bears kept the rest of the game close, with Sean Schneeberg (Sacramento, Calif./Del Oro) homering in the top of the ninth, before falling 8-6.

Four Bears recorded hits with Matt Arcati (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) hitting a double in the fifth inning.

Anthony Faggiano (Hicksville, N.Y./Bethpage) stole a base.

Faggiano, Schneeberg, and Goldberg all had two hits and combined to score four runs.

Michael Gardener (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) went 1-for-4 with a run scored.

Mike Dedella (Pemberton, N.J./Pemberton Township) tossed five innings and struck out five in the no-decision.
