STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) baseball team fell to sibling school St. Joseph's (Long Island), 0-9 and 4-13, in a Sunday afternoon doubleheader from the Verrazano Babe Ruth Complex on Staten Island.
How it Happened (Game 1)
Following a scoreless first inning, the Golden Eagles hit back-to-back home runs to right center field to begin the second; adding a third later in the stanza. The visitors soared to a 6-0 after three.
The Bears were unable to retaliate as the Golden Eagles scored runs in each of the final three frames, confirming their 9-0 result.
How it Happened (Game 2)
Long Island again got on the board first before the Bears put up three in the bottom of the second, courtesy of Brian Sanchez's (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H Calhoun) infield hit, 3-1.
Brooklyn's lead was short-lived as SJLI saw three cross the plate in the third followed by two in the fifth, 6-3.
The Goldem Eagles added further separation with seven runs scored between the seventh an ninth innings – with Snachez scoring the Bears' fourth run on Michael Gardener's (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) eighth-inning single – to see out a 13-4 result; remaining Unbeaten in Skyline Conference play.
