No. 3 Softball Opens Skyline Conference Tournament with Defeat of No. 6 Mount Saint Vincent; Takes on No. 2 Manhattanville Thursday

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — In their third meeting in four days, the No. 3 St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) softball team knocked off No. 6 University of Mount Saint Vincent in the first round of the 2024 Skyline Conference Tournament on Tuesday night, 9-1, in six innings.

How it Happened

The Dolphins drew first blood in the top of the first. However, Bella Gomez 's leadoff double kick started their half of the first, ultimately tying the contest at one.  (Whittier, Calif./Sonora) A pair of singles from Arianna Heinsch (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall Academy) in the second and Audrey Scott (Rocklin, Calif./Whitney) in the third saw the SJBK lead increase to 3-1.

Scott reached on a UMSV error that plated Lauren Van Der Kamp (Sacramento, Calif./Rosemont) and Vivian Garcia (Eastvale, Calif./Eleanor Roosevelt) in the fifth. The sophomore outfielder scored on a Heinsch single later in the inning as the Bears' five runs resulted in an 8-1 advantage.

In the sixth, Olivia Martinez (Tomball, Texas/Tomball Memorial) – who found herself in scoring position – took advantage of a Dolphin error at third base, crossing the plate to confirm the Bears' 9-1 run-rule victory and a place in the double elimination portion of the Skyline Championship
