Kieblesz Scores in Men’s Soccer’s Season-Opening Defeat to Brooklyn College

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. - Brooklyn men's soccer team opened the new season with a 1-2 defeat to Brooklyn College on Friday night from Aviator Field.

How it Happened

The Bulldogs struck first courtesy of a 25th-minute penalty. The SJBK deficit lasted 10 minutes as senior defender Matthew Kieblesz (Middle Village, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) headed Pablo Mejia's corner-kick delivery past the Brooklyn goalkeeper to equalize the proceedings.

In the 67th minute, the Bulldogs regained the lead. Despite the Bears' efforts to draw the match level, they were unable to do so and ultimately lost 2-1.

For the Bears

  • Kieblesz's header was his fifth career goal while Mejia dropped his 10th career assist.

  • Alex Castro (Miami, Fla./Christopher Columbus) totaled a pair of saves in his Bears debut between the sticks.

  • Mejia, Victor Naci (Bordeaux, France/Bernard Palissy), and Diego Volpe (Long Branch, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) combined for nine shots and three shots on target.
