BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. – Brooklyn women's volleyball team began Skyline Conference play with a straight-set victory over the University of Mount Saint Vincent (25-15, 25-19, 25-17) on Tuesday evening at The Hill Center.
How it Happened
The Bears opened the match on cruise control, hitting at a .321 clip. Taylor Knight (San Ramon, Calif./Dougherty Valley) had five kills and three digs in the frame while Martina Urgo (Astoria, N.Y./St. John's Prep) provided a pair of aces en route to a 25-18 set win.
After falling into a 3-0 hole in the second, the Dolphins turned things around to hold an 11-7 advantage, their largest lead of the set. A pair of Urgo Kills followed to swing the lead in the Bears' favor. The lead exchanged hands several times after but the Bears, at 15-all, failed to surrender the edge; limiting the visitors to four points thereafter to claim the stanza 25-19.
The third set followed a similar trend to that of the first as the tandem of Urgo and Knight posting four kills each. The match culminated with kills from Knight and Jillian McGinty (Glendale, N.Y./Queens Metropolitan) as SJBK took the set, 25-17, and the match 3-0.

Knight logged a double-double of 16 kills and 10 digs in her Hill Center debut.

Urgo finished with a stat line of nine kills, eight digs, three service aces, and as many assists.

Rachel Meltsin (Brooklyn, N.Y./James Madison) logged 27 assists, five digs, and three aces.

McGinty and Jenna Diaz (Middle Village, N.Y./Townsend Harris) combined for eight digs and six kills.

Knight, McGinty, and Juliette DiVittorio (Astoria, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) each had two aces.
